It was announced that....that a Swedish drug store franchise....will offer 50 sex-toy selection amongst its drug items over the next twelve months....as a test.
Apoteket is the store name. They haven't exactly said what toys they intend to stock on the shelves....apparently this part of the plan hasn't advanced too far. Swedes are mostly quiet about this....I'm guessing if they were Ripley folks....they might not want anyone to know about this kind of business.
It'll be amusing if there any half-price sales and paper advertisements sent out. And I can just see the chief drug store boss....when someone brings back a toy that doesn't work or isn't operational. It'll be a tense scene....with customer likely worried and upset. The real question here.....will Wal-Greens come next?

Live a Brit
At RAF Wittering in the UK....the British Army troops have been told to halt wearing the uniform. A whacked out Pakistani-Brit has come with a threat to behead a British Army troop....should he see them on the streets. The cops arrested the idiot....and the mayor even came out to say this was a sad day for Britain. The cops have basically asked for the troops to wear civilian garb and avoid a military appearance for the time being. For the troops there....its basically an insult but they are cooperating.
For the last three years.....there have been continued shows of non-British attitude within the great island. Men who came to Britain for a new life....have deemed their land as a devilish land and refused to be part of its proud history. They bring a attitude of trying to force their new-found land into becoming the land they were forced to leave (so they want to tell you over and over).
For a man to assume the title of "Brit"...its not something to be tossed into the wind or weighed down by some shadow dream of Muhammad or dumped into a pit. Either you live and breathe as a "Brit".....with a 1,000 years of history upon your shoulders....or you aren't a "Brit". I'm think a thousand men ought to be packing...and leaving.

Lincoln and the $400 Game
We learn today...that Lincoln got real upset over the cost of the Civil War....after only six months. Millions per day were being spent and the government really didn't have this money. So he kinda wrote up a letter and suggested this radical idea of paying $400 for each slave and just end everything with this payoff. The south lot their month for what they invested and the war would just end. Apparently....there just weren't any interested parties around....to feel good over this idea.
From a money standpoint....the investment capital that southerners had put into all of these slaves....did amount to a huge amount of money. Its hard to judge if they'd just accept this and let things go. Plus...who does the farm work then? You have vast Wal-Mart operations of farming going on....taking 100 to 200 workers to accomplish....and if the system just ends...then the whole farming contribution to profit for the nation....sinks. This was the fact of how the south was built and run. Farms produced cotton...which sold overseas. From a export prospective....almost half of the profit of America...was based on this simple crop.
You also have to understand that most of the religious right in the north....who wanted the country to focus on defeating the south....had zero will in paying off the south for this issue. So nothing was going to stop the war and this somewhat crazy idea of Lincoln's....was destined for failure. The amusing thing...had he used this for his platform in the elections....he might have found more support and prevented the war.....maybe by drawing this out...state by state. If he only offered four southern states the option...it would have broken the southern "togetherness" and set the folks apart.
Example: if offer offered to Florida, Georgia, Arkansas and Louisiana....it would have not cost that much to pay them off (with a lesser slave population than states like Bama or North Carolina or Virginia). After three years....offer up another three or four states the deal....and after 15 years....they would have all crumbled...without a war to divide the nation. But thats in the "what-if" category.

The Chaos of German Political Unity
The mighty have spoken. Once the President of Germany (number two under Helmet Kohl)....Roman Herzog spoke out today about a mess developing with political "partnerships". A lesson for a moment on how a German majority rules. First, there are no majority elections anymore. No single political party can win 50 percent or more of the elections. So to run the country....the top dog....gets a month to iron out a partnership with a second or third or fourth-place party. Normally....you start out with the 4th place group in hopes of handing the fewest amount of departments of the government. You are basically agreeing....that junior partner gets to run the agricultural department or the military or even the state justice department. The fewer, the better. Lately....this partnership business has been crumbling....once a disagreement arises and a partner quits....you got to hold more elections...thus triggering more partnerships.
So in recent weeks....in Hessen....the mess has gone into 5th gear. The SPD candidate running.....Andrea Ypsilanti....gave bold promises for weeks...that she wouldn't partner up with the Linke Party (former commies). She won the election but not by a bold margin. So a partner is necessary. Andrea thought that she could partner with the Greens and the FDP (the pro-business front). The FDP basically said from day one....they really didn't agree with anything much that SPD stood for, period. So after a week or two of talking....Andrea is now realizing that FDP meant that. Now comes the problem. Solution number two? Partner with the CDU (the Republican side)....and she really doesn't want that problem. So the last option....partner with the Linke Party....which is what she vowed she wouldn't do. New folks asked her about this, and she said it was true she said in the campaign that this was stupid....but she really has to change the game plan now. Folks up in Hessen are pretty split on this talk....half agree....half disagree. Having the former communist party in the front room, running portions of the government....might not be a good long-term plan.
So today....along comes Roman Herzog. You have to appreciate the guy....because he is fairly wise on this stuff. Roman says....Germany is now entering a era of minority rule....which means a unstable environment for the government. Nothing can last.
As Roman points out....if you do get your partnership lined up.....on day one....you are a "lame duck" chancellor....with a limited vision and probably not more than two years of leadership to iron out your program..
Roman even went as far as comparing this to the Weimar Republic...where Hitler eventually became a junior partner and rose up to be a national leader...with only 30 percent of the national vote in his favor.
Roman even went to the extent of suggesting a sixth party is probably going to occur....somewhere in the future. You only need five percent of the national vote to create this next party....and the national potential for a Nazi-like party to return? Today....to get five percent....its very unlikely. In five years? Well....it might be a 40 percent chance. Thats what bothers Roman.
The answer that Roman put forth...is a run-off....where the country would be forced into voting for the top party and the top candidate. I'm guessing currently....none of the three minor parties, or the other dozen parties of 1-percent membership around the country....will agree to this. So....more of the same to continue. As for Hessen? Get ready for a Linke Party partnership...lasting less than two years. You folks voted it in....so prepare yourself.

Twilight Zone of Votes
Somewhere between Michigan and Florida...there are lost Hillary votes. Sadly...because both states decided to update their voting days....and go against the democratic party mechanism....they both lost their seats at the convention. The amusing thing...Hillary won both states.
So in the past two weeks....there has a flurry of activity over those states and their lousy seats. The governors of both states are saying that the votes should count....period. Obama says....since the party already decided the votes can't count....to forget about this. Hillary says....fix it. So folks are talking about possibly running another election or a caucus to revote their efforts....here at the very end. Hillary is very acceptable to that.....but who would pay for this is a huge question. The states are saying NO to paying for another election.
So I'm thinking....the party will agree to a county by county caucus effort....at some football field....and decide the mess again. The amusing thing....Obama might win....although Hillary won't admit that part.
For the Republicans....this is like ice cream on Sundays....because you can portray Hillary winning....by breaking or changing every rule in the book. So naturally....they want this to happen. In Ripley....we'd be all confused if you came up and said to vote a second time. We might even vote for that Mr. Richardson....just to make a statement. I'm thinking Hillary gets the votes....by whatever method is necessary. Alot of folks....just ain't going to be happy.
