When you go to Berchestgaden....there are only a couple of real sites in town to go and see. The mountaintop at the Jenner is one of them. But there are some bits of advice here.
First....when you pull up to the side of the mountain...there is only one parking lot for you to park upon....and you pay $5 for that opportuntity. The building where the cable car is located....is easy to find but then you have the various price listings to gaze upon.....forget all of them and simply pay attention.
The car takes you to option 1 (the middle station), which isn't worth stopping at....trust me. The second option is the top of the mountain......take this one. The cost is $26 per person, round-trip. It is a bit costly....this I will admit....especially being from Bama. The top features a beer garden area and some great food.....and for two to three hours....you can view things from a huge prospective.....and enjoy the sun.
Then comes the 'trick'. If you wanted to pay less....then drop the round-trip and walk down. You may think this is a bit impossible.....but its a 4.5 hour walk down the mountain to where the car was located. You save $8 by making this decision.
If you've got a fear of heights....don't make this trip. If you hate cable cars.....don't make this trip. If you like to overindulge in beer drinking....don't make this trip.
The most entertaining part of my trip was the guy who was walking down the entire mountain.....no sun tan lotion on and I saw the guy down at the half-way point station (no, I didn't walk).....and he was burnt to a crisp and still had two hours of walking to go. I felt sorry for the guy's wife.....he was going to be weeping that night. The interesting thing of seeing the guy at the half-way station.....was his choice of drinks....beer and buttermilk....no water. For a guy from Bama....this was a perfect choice....I will admit.

Chicky-Micky
There is this little German expression....which I have come to grasp over the past ten days of vacation....chicky-micky.
It basically means going on a trip and arriving at a hotel or resturant or site.....and you thought it would be three or four star.....and its one or two stars.
For example.....I was hungry about six days ago and ate at a place which looked decent enough from the street.....in a high tourist area.....and the food later....was amongst the worst I've had in ten years.
The hotel I stayed in Starnberg.....while being great access to the train station....was actually terrible and I wouldn't rate it higher than a two star.
Several of the sites I've seen in the past week.....are a joke. Paying almost $15 to enter a place and then finding it to be alot less than you imagined. The same for boat trips or scenic spots.
So Germans have devised this little comment to express the real situation of tourism....chicky-micky.
