The Climate Change Problem

There is a subtle report in the Charlotte Observer which suggests that global warming/global cooling/climate change is underway.

The emphasis of the commentary.....is that things are changing all around us.  In some cases, we aren't even recognizing the change until months or years later.  Their one major suggestion? Armadillos and South American fire ants have appeared locally in the Carolina region now.

I sat and paused over the commentary.  Fire ants got introduced into the US over thirty years ago and folks even in the late 1980s said that they would eventually cover most of the US.  It's not exactly climate change underway....it's simply ants progressing.  Armadillos?  They were already appearing in Bama back in the 1990s....so there's not much shocking there.

One could go to the extreme here and interpret various data collections and determine that people are leaving New Orleans, Detroit, and New York City.  One could act naive enough to say that they are leaving because of climate change, and some dimwits would be stupid enough to believe that.

In fact, I can stand here now and admit that I see climate change in everything. I’ve come to notice it in the fall with NCAA football ratings and the bowl selections. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that my toilet flushes. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that my watch ticks. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that McDonalds makes its coffee. I’ve come to note climate change in the color of of the Sun. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that the Yankees come to win World Series. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that Katie Couric was dumped for that young Scott-guy. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that Dunkins makes its donuts. I’ve come to note climate change in the way that Hulk Hogan wrestles. I’ve come to note climate in the way that septic tanks fill faster than they did twenty-five years ago.

My own belief is that we've started up some science graduate courses and degrees.....and probably allowed way too many folks to graduate but they just don't know much about science even after they attend college.  At some point, the science experts will tell us that there are indicators on Dancing with the Stars....which demonstrate global climate change.  And even Grandma will believe them.
