Big Balls in South Carolina

We've all seen them...."truck nuts".  Most of us just classify the guy as tasteless and without class.

Apparently, over in South Carolina....some older gal (65 years old) had a pair on her vehicle....pulled in for gas, and some wannabe town cop asked her to remove them.  She refused.  He cited state law.  She still refused.  He wrote a ticket for about $400.  She got a lawyer.  He talked the city into getting a lawyer, and wants this to go to a full up legal situation....potentially to the state supreme court, and maybe on.

The state has this vague written concept....where you could get into trouble for “a sticker, decal, emblem, or device is indecent …in a patently offensive way, as determined by contemporary community standards, sexual acts, excretory functions, or parts of the human body.”

It doesn't say bull balls....but you just kinda infer it.  Are bull balls part of a sexual act?  If you live in South Carolina and practice law enforcement....it is.  I have to admit in Bama.....we don't usually include bull balls as part of our sexual acts....least as far as I know in the northern parts of the state.

The issue here?  Imagine the next election.  Anybody that defends the cop....even the county DA....they have to get this nickname of "Balls", and it'll go downhill from that point on.  You can imagine the cop pulling into the local gas station and a couple of the guys sitting out front letting out a bull "call".  This cop is finished in this present job.  He might last until December, but it's going to be awful hard to look professional while this bull balls episode continues on.

Only in America.

Another Nickel Out of Your Pocket

Late yesterday....the new rules proposed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services came out.  Basically....all insurers would be required to provide free contraceptive services, free breast-feeding support and supplies, free domestic violence screening and counseling, free regular "well woman" visits, counseling about HIV and sexually transmitted infections, free screening for gestational diabetes, and a couple of other miscellaneous preventive services.  All without co-payments.

Naturally it has made some folks real happy and some folks real upset.

Just a humble opinion that might stimulate a moment of thought here.....none of these changes for services or drugs or activities are truly free.  Basically....you just watched a five-to-eight percent jump in your healthcare insurance costs.  If you were a single guy....just paying for healthcare insurance for yourself.....you pay the increase....just for your lady friends.

When you sit around and wonder why so many pieces and parts of your life have gone up in cost.....it usually comes back to some government involvement.  The extra $260 a year that you will likely pay next year for your health care increases?  You can kinda guess how and why it occurred, and what it really means to you.

Next year?  Take your pick on forty different types of drugs that the government may determine are to be without co-payments....basically free.  Or maybe it's drug rehab, or alcohol rehab, or weight reduction rehab.

The Bogusness of Twitter?

Someone who had been working on the staff of Newt Gringrich came around to suggest that of the 1.3 million Twitter-followers of Newt....only twenty percent might be real people.  The other folks?  Non-existent or bogus.

It is a curious story.  Apparently...as the story goes....Newt's folks arranged this contract with a couple of folks who know how to create mass Twitter accounts.  To pump up the worldly status of the mighty Newt....they went out and created hundreds of thousands of fake Newt followers.

I sat and pondered over this for a while.  Then I asked myself.....who else could be using bogus Twitter-people?  The President?  Rick Perry?  Mitt Romney?  You really don't know.

Does it really matter?  The truth is that none of us really care that much for what status a guy has via Twitter or Facebook or any other social media.  A guy might have 300 friends on Facebook but if we checked it out....maybe two hundred of them are bogus.

I don't want to cast stones at glass houses, but the notion of Twitter being important in life or politics....is a bit comical.  We existed quiet well for two hundred years without Twitter, and we could probably do well without it.
