Well....it's a dramatic historical writing of the settling on the open prairie and the general lifestyle and culture of those those who came around 1905.....to North Dakota.
Epic proportion? Yeah.....and it's well written.
I'd suggest that it's a great book for a eighth-grade or ninth-grade history or literature class. It's easily read, and would lay out dozens of discussions over a month-long read. You could discussion American lifestyles, economics, history, the toughness required in life, and what people had to do in order to survive. It's roughly two hundred pages.
Excellent gift material for a young teenager who has interest in history.
