1. The largest obstacle to admitting to the whole mess? You have x-number of companies who've had a thousand-year advancement period of technology going on....so if you admitted the whole story, you've got 99-percent of companies existing today....with wasted effort.
2. As skeptical as folks are today....I think the majority of the population...even if the aliens themselves gave a live interview...the general public would not believe the aliens.
3. As much time as they seem to spend on Earth...it just seems likely they goofed-up their home-planet, and Earth is their plan 'B'.....which ought to make you ask....what'd you do to screw up things?

On the Star Trek variant DEEP SPACE NINE, the Quark character is discussing a troubled species.
Another character mentions the reason humans travel to other worlds... we bombed each other.

The Quark quote sticks with me.
Puzzled, he mumbles:
* "They irradiated their home planet? Who does that?"
The more I learn about what is going on around the world, the more I tend to agree with a comment that has stuck with me over time: "Earth has been designated as the lunatic mental asylum for the galaxy."
