I finally sat down and watched Australia (the movie), with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. It's difficult to describe because in some ways it was 5-star and in some ways it was 2-star. The script and writing? Two-star at best. There were times in the first thirty minutes, you just wanted to turn the movie off. The filming and the background? Five-star. I sat amazed at some of the scenes...almost epic in proportion.
It was an almost three-hour long movie, with really two entirely different stories built....one telling the ranch story, which comes to a close....and then another 75 minutes which went into the WW II story. I sat there at the closure of the first part and wanted to just say enough and turn it off. But I continued on.
So by the end....you are left with several observations. It's a epic but not a great epic. Kidman and Jackman gave decent performances but it's nothing you sit and remember. The script? It really could have been better. Finally, it's a movie that you just like to turn the sound down and watch the background.
