First, I think roughly 500,000 to 700,000 will ultimately be 'let-go' (permanently).
Second, I would suggest that within 30 days....the bulk of this group (probably 95-percent) will have a problem in finding new work...especially if staying within the 'circle' of DC.
Those with Masters/PhD's? Most will find instructor/professor jobs....accepting a 20-to-40-percent pay-cut.
Early 2026....at least 40,000 of these folks will be in dire financial situations....owning houses that can't be sold at market-value, and banks on their butt to pay $3k monthly mortgages.
Finally, I'm of the mindset....that those in the age-group of 50 to 60....probably will never find a replacement-job.
