I listened to this song last week. I enjoyed it, especially due to its Virginia roots. Farmville is dead set in the middle of the state just southwest of Richmond. I've lived in Southeastern Virgina for most of my life.
I listened to it, and I started to notice how many people on You Tube have reviewed it. I have not seen a negative comment on it yet. It doesn't matter who reviewed it, White or Black, American or foreigner. Lots of people have tried to claim it as a song for themselves or their group. Especially on the right side of the isle.
I see it as an old fashion protest folk song. I find it interesting that Oliver said he was heavily influenced by Hang William Jr. I think that there is a touch of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie there.
I seems that Uniparty are totally clueless about what the working-class poor to middle-class are dealing with these days. One recent headline "Inflation Nightmare: American Households Spending $709 More for Same Goods as Two Years ago,"

You can line up a hundred-million Americans...working-class poor to middle-class, and it's the gut-feeling that's been brewing for three decades.
Even if you don't pay income taxes....they gut you at fuel taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes.
Oddly, you can't find a single Democrat player who will echo this feeling. Even half of Republican leadership will deny this feeling exists.
