Three Things

 1.  This socialist guy running as a Democrat for NY City's mayor position....has said he wants city-run grocery stores....which he details as zero-profit operations.  I've sat and pondered the idea.

First, you can figure to get the property leased for just three stores....you'd be talking about $20-million to lease-up and make the properties presentable.

By the opening point....figure around another $20-million to fill the shelves.

Then you say zero-profit.....just sales taxes.  Salary business?  I don't think he's ever run a business.

So I'll just say it....about 18 months later....the three will be a scandal situation where the city is sinking $1-million a week into operating cost for each store.

2.  I've watched about an hour of the Joe Rogan interview with Bernie Sanders.

God.....Bernie comes across as a nutcase.  The way he sells the party?  I would have to consume half-a-bottle of Jack Daniels to get 'happy' with the Democratic message/brand.

3.  Just for the record....the NY City Dem primary......almost 57-percent of Dems voted against Mamdani (the socialist guy).  It's not a great number to base your campaign against.

One:
Plus another few million fedbux for all the grifters involved in yet-another skim-scam.
Monthly.
.
His proposed stores are 'zero-profit' because they are supported by tax-payers and tax-dollars.
.
An aside:
I tend to think socialist schemes fall on the 'nutty' side of the 'unworkable' spectrum.

I have no problem believing that city-run grocery stores will be zero profit. I also believe that they will regularly have zero items on the shelves and be fully staffed regardless, because that's how Soviet grocery stores generally were. Like their Soviet forerunners, New Yorkers will start carrying Avoska string bags with them wherever they go in case they pass a store that unexpectedly has what they want in stock.

Back 10 years ago, I watched a show where a former East German talked about the running of grocery stores in the DDR days (1980s). Corner market operation....1 brand of toilet paper, limited options for tooth paste, limit on what you could take for fruit/vegetables. People accepted this. When this NY special grocery thing gets delivered....it'll go through a theft period, and become a joke in six months.
